Responsible Sourcing Tools

The Responsible Sourcing Tool for seafood is a set of resources for the private sector. It includes information on mapping supply chains, template social responsibility agreements for buyers/suppliers, traceability guidelines, risk assessment guidelines, and evaluation criteria for recruitment agencies.

A wide variety of data was used to determine how to present the risk information on its website on maps, in narrative form, and in charts and graphs. The data includes global production and trade flows; numerous reports on human trafficking as well as reports focused on forced labor and/or child labor associated with commodities; and information about any countries in which trafficking-related problems have been reported in association with a particular commodity. All data and analysis on its website are meant to introduce users to the issues and risks associated with human trafficking and encourage users to explore the issues in more depth. The resources and tools on the website are not meant to be exhaustive or determinative. Resources and information points will be updated periodically. The Responsible Sourcing Tool is the result of the collaboration of four institutions: the State Department’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, Verité, Made in a Free World, and the Aspen Institute.
