The ILO supported the Viet Nam Institute of Fisheries Economics and Planning and the National Syndicate of Workers in fisheries to organize a consultation workshop on 7 September 2023. The consultation aimed to support the development of informational materials to increase awareness and understanding of labour rights and occupational safety and health among Vietnamese fishers and vessel owners.
Organized in the coastal province of Binh Dinh, the consultation engaged more than 20 tuna fishers to obtain their direct experiences. During the workshop, the participants discussed the key issues that fishers in Viet Nam face during their time at sea. They also shared valuable insights on how to make the informational materials more user-friendly and accessible for both fishers and vessel owners.
