Cambodia Celebrates International Migrants Day

To commemorate International Migrants Day, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training together with the ILO and IOM organized a celebration in Phnom Penh on 22 December. The event was organized under the theme of “Enhancing Regular Pathways for Labour Migration through Governance, Skills Development and Certification”. Opened by H.E. Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, the celebration was well-attended by 228 people, including representatives of government agencies, CSOs, foreign embassies and UN agencies.

The ILO also supported the Center for Alliance of Labour and Human Rights (CENTRAL) to organize a series of International Migrants Day events on 18 December. Community forums were held to promote safe migration and improved labour rights for migrants in 16 different locations across 6 provinces, including Kampong Thom, Siem Reap, Preah Vihear, Banteay Meanchey, Battambang and Pursat provinces. Altogether, the events were attended by 2,124 people, including migrant workers, community members, government authorities and CSOs.
