In preparation for implementation of Decree Number 523/012, the Provincial Marine Affairs and Fisheries Office and the Manpower and Transmigration Office of Central Java organized a training in Batang on 29 September 2023. With technical support from the ILO, the training focused on inspection of improving occupational safety and health (OSH) onboard fishing vessels. Applying the “Participatory Action-Oriented Training” method, the training engaged 66 representatives of the government, vessel owners, fishers and skippers from across the province. The highlight was an action checklist exercise at Klidang Lor fishing port in Batang, where participants gained hands-on experience in assessing risks and hazards on fishing vessels. The participants were also able to identify areas for improvement and shared best practices in ensuring compliance with safety and health regulations.
