ILO has extended its partnership with the Foundation for Education and Development. The new agreement will help to ensure the ongoing provision of safe migration information and support services for migrant workers via MRC Kawthaung in the southernmost part of Myanmar until June 2024. The activities will encompass the dissemination of safe migration information and training, offering legal aid for cases of labor rights violations, providing emergency assistance to deported and vulnerable returning migrants, and delivering vocational training and support for income-generating activities to assist returning migrants.

To date, the MRC in Kawthaung has been highly effective in delivering support to migrant workers, reaching 6,828 beneficiaries with essential services during the last year and providing information via its Migrant Times Facebook page to over 115,000 followers. In particular, Kawthaung is well-known to be a key border crossing point for migrant workers heading to port areas for work in the fishing and seafood processing sectors.
