To support the restoration of livelihoods for return migrant workers during COVID-19, the Foundation for Education and Development (FED) provided skills training and start-up grants for 15 women migrants in Kawthaung. After the training, the participants formed a peer support network named the “Grass Roots Group” to share information and advice on establishing new income generating activities.

FED also provided a series of safe migration trainings for 79 migrant workers (67 women) to increase their knowledge on migration processes and procedures, occupational safety and health, labour rights in Thailand and contact information for organizations providing assistance services to migrant workers. The training is tailored for the specific informational needs of migrants preparing for work in the fishing and seafood processing sectors.

The training, grants and peer support network are a consolidated effort in supporting return migrant workers during uncertain times while creating opportunities for better livelihoods during the pandemic.
