ILO Supports ITC Training on Inspection Systems for Labour Conditions on Board Fishing Vessels

Globally, labour inspectorates have not received adequate support to fulfill their mandates on regulating working and living conditions in the fishing sector. On 15 November, the Ship to Shore Rights South East Asia programme collaborated with the ILO’s International Training Centre and the 8.7 Accelerator Lab to provide training for labour inspectors from more than 20 countries on combatting forced labour in the fishing industry. It was a rich opportunity to discuss some of the key challenges and lessons learned identified during the last 7 years of the ILO’s interventions to protect migrant workers in South East Asia’s blue economy.
