The ILO joined forces with the Lao Federation of Trade Unions (LFTU) to strengthen the skills of trade unionists on safe migration outreach activities for potential migrants in Vientiane on 31 August. Through the training, a diverse group of 22 LFTU representatives were able to learn how to effectively raise awareness about safe migration and labour rights among potential migrants, including their rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining. Equipped with these new skills, LFTU has already begun to conduct outreach activities in two garment factories right in Vientiane. The unionists were able to provide extensive safe migration information and counselling to 354 potential migrant workers (365 women) in the target factories.
