ILO and IOM supported the Government of Indonesia and the ASEAN Secretariat to organize the 2nd Workshop on the Development of the ASEAN Guidelines on the Placement and Protection of Migrant Fishers in Semarang, Indonesia on 5-6 February. The Workshop was attended by 135 representatives from governments, workers, employers and civil society organizations from all 10 ASEAN Member States.
The Workshop successfully reached agreement on the final changes to the ASEAN Guidelines prior to sending them for endorsement by ASEAN Member States. After their notation at the ASEAN Summit in October 2024, the Guidelines are expected to provide an important regional normative instrument for provision of labour protection to migrant fishers in South East Asia.
