On 11 April, the ILO Country Director for Indonesia and Timor-Leste met with the Deputy Coordinating Minister of the Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs to support cooperation on harmonizing laws and regulations governing Indonesia’s fishing sector.
During the meeting, the ILO congratulated the Ministry for issuing the decree to establish a harmonization team and affirmed its continuing technical support. The decree was developed with assistance from the ILO and will support greater regulatory coherence in the fishing sector, as well as help to reduce the gap between Indonesia’s existing laws and the Work in Fishing Convention, 2007 (No. 188).
