The ILO held a regional launch event and training for its Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Strategy on 12-13 December. The training event was led by Kirsty Milward, an independent gender specialist who introduced the participants to the key concepts involved, discussed a gender analysis of conditions in the fishing and seafood processing sectors and provided strategies for a gender transformative approach.
The training was attended by 51 tripartite plus stakeholders from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Myanmar Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam. At its conclusion, the training participants were tasked with developing action plans for promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment within their own organizations.
