The ILO worked with Mawk Kon Local Development Organization to translate its informational materials on safe migration in the fishing and seafood processing sectors into the Shan language. As a key area of origin for migrant workers in Myanmar, outreach to Shan migrants in their native language is important to ensure clear understanding and to avoid reinforcing Bama ethno-centric approaches. It is believed that the translated materials are the first ILO publication to be produced in Shan language. They will be distributed during outreach activities by the Migrant Worker Resource Centre in Tachileik. The materials can be downloaded here: https://www.ilo.org/asia/publications/WCMS_908882/lang–en/index.htm.
