Innovation to improve living conditions and safety on board fishing vessels

S2SR SEA observed a demonstration of training vessels, developed by the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) to scope and evaluate information for research and advocacy on labour condition.

The M.V “Pla Lang” fishing vessel was developed and retrofitted in 2020 by SEAFDEC with an aim to improve living condition and safety on board trawler fishing vessels, using technology and different types of simple hydraulic fishing gears to save energy and reduced environmental impact. It focuses on improving fishing capacity by reducing labour force by half and promoting work safety at sea. It also aimed for the purpose of fish quality preservation and reduced loss of products.
