Through a partnership with Stella Maris and local government authorities in Thailand, a series of safety and basic lifesaving trainings were conducted in Songkhla, Nakhon Sri Thammarat and Surat Thani provinces during 27 November – 1 December 2023. More than 150 fishers, skippers and vessel owners had an opportunity to learn practical first aid and life support skills. The training provides them with a certification to deliver basic assistance on board a fishing vessel. These skills are particularly critical for fishers because they are often unable to immediately access medical services while at sea. The training helped to build the capacity of fishers to help injured crew members until they are able to return to shore and seek medical attention.
