The ILO supported the community journalism awards ceremony at Pasay City in the Philippines on 25 April, which recognizes excellence in reporting on labour migration issues every year. The Baguio Chronicle bagged the award for Best Reporting on Migration, and was represented at the ceremony by its contributing editor Franklin Cimatu.
Under the S2SR programme, the ILO has been supporting the Civic Journalism Community Press Awards for daily and weekly community newspapers since 2020, in partnership with the Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication (AIJC) and the Philippine Press Institute. The award recognizes efforts to raise awareness and inform public debate on labour migration issues in the Philippines.
On hand to present the award was AIJC Senior Director Ann Lourdes Lopez and ILO National Project Coordinator Hussein Macarambon, who called on journalists to help fill the gap in balanced reporting on Filipino migrant workers and their families.
